First 2 days at sea on our way to Hawaii

25th& 26th September 2019

We are now at sea for 4 days on our way to Honolulu. The 25th is a slightly cooler day after the great weather we had in LA. There is a strong breeze blowing and Ruby is giving off a few groans as she passes through what are seeming slight seas. It seems that pushing into the wind is mostly responsible.

On board information lectures have begun, and this morning we attended the first port information lecture telling us about Honolulu and options for things to do there. We have not booked any tours and it seems we are going to be berthed quite close to the city centre, so should be able to walk to most things we want to see. The girls are a bit keen on hitting the shopping factory outlets, so that may also happen.

There is plenty of activity on board, but we take it easy, have our daily walk and continue to remain fed and hydrated. There are a lot more Aussies and Kiwis on board since we left LA, so the watering holes are a bit busier.

The morning of the 26thSeptember is overcast, but a little warmer than yesterday. The wind has died down and the seas are only slight, very pleasant conditions for cruising in the middle of the ocean with no sign of anything between us, and the horizon.

Our morning walk around the deck was a lot more pleasant with no need to fight the wind as we rounded the bow today.

A presentation on our second destination in the Hawaiian Islands, Kua’ai, was the highlight of the morning. Once again there was lots of information and we are looking forward to visiting there, as it is one of the islands we have not previously been to. By the time we had breakfast, went to the presentation and had our walk around the deck it was close to lunchtime.

This time we tried the buffet, as up till now we have mainly been going to the dining room. The food was very good with a good selection of fresh salads and plenty of other choices.

An after lunch rest and read was in order, after which we continued discovering more of the ship. We managed to find an unoccupied table tennis table, so that kept us amused for a fair while. Both of our games need a bit of sharpening up, but we should be in good form by the time we get to Sydney.

It is a formal night to night, but fortunately we have booked to go to the Crown Grill instead of the regular restaurant. Pre dinner drinks were held in the Wesslinks’ suite, which is ideally set up for such occasions. We all bought some champagne on board, so enjoyed a glass or two before dinner.

Dinner was excellent. They still serve some of the best steaks you can get anywhere, and the lobster was pretty good as well
