At Sea on the way to Sydney
21stOctober 2019
At sea, on our way home to Sydney it is another windy and bouncy day. The promenade deck is closed, so there is no opportunity for our daily walk around the deck today.
Australian Immigration staff are on board and are processing all passengers and staff for arrival in Australia on Wednesday morning. The process takes most of the morning by the time everyone is done.
The entertainment highlight is a talk by Captain David Lethin, who owned several crabbing boats fishing the Bering Sea. A few of his boats including the Aleutian Ballad were featured on the TV series “The Deadliest Catch”. He was a great speaker and was well prepared with video and still photography to support his many entertaining anecdotes.
He discovered later in life that there were easier ways to make money, and decided to totally refit Aleutian Ballad as a tourist boat operating out of one of the islands in a joint venture with the natives of the area. He now takes tours of cruise ship passengers out for a taste of what it is like crabbing and fishing in this area, including setting and retrieving pots. Obviously it is no longer fishing at a commercial level and only goes out in tame weather.
It was an entertaining way to fill out the afternoon.
Tonight is yet another formal night !!!! The only saving grace is that the food menu is normally better.
We went to the show after dinner, which was excellent.
